Topigs Norsvin is a global leader in pig breeding and artificial insemination. In 2014, the cooperation Topigs in the Países Bajos and the Norwegian cooperation Norsvin brought their international and R&D activities together, resulting in a strong global organization with a world-leading Puesto in swine genetics. The head office is in Den Bosch, the Países Bajos, but with an important hub in Hamar, Noruega.

Topigs Norsvin works with local subsidiaries, joint ventures, and distributors. Combining genetics, service, and knowledge to meet client needs in the marketplace. Topigs Norsvin has its own nucleus breeding farms to supply the domestic and international markets with market-specific, high-quality porcine genetics. The Empresa's research, innovation, and genetic improvement are the cornerstones of the organization, having research and development programs with leading universities and research institutes around the world.

 

Puesto within the organization:

The role reports to the Director of Global Technical Services and leads the Global Veterinarian Services team, which includes the CVO and five cluster veterinarians responsible for worldwide veterinary services for the Topigs Norsvin breeding program and gene dissemination centers. It also actively participates as CVO in the Global MT‑Operations team and collaborates closely with global and cluster logistics, sales, and production teams, serving as a bridge between these groups and the veterinary teams, including R&D (Health and Behavior platform), the Genetic Nucleus (GN) group, and GTS. Additionally, the Puesto takes part in Global Technical Services management meetings (MT GTS) to represent the interests of the Global Veterinarian Services team and is responsible for the external representation of the veterinarian department at congresses, authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the veterinary field.

 

Key deliverables:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor a global health plan for the Topigs Norsvin breeding and production infrastructure. 
  • Reporting 2 times per year the status of the breeding herds as AI studs for health and biosecurity monitoring to the Management Team Operations (via the Chief Technical Officer).
  • Interpret (health) disruptions and take adequate actions when needed.
  • Responsible for managing the Global Veterinarian Services Team in developing and executing the Topigs Norsvin health plan.
  • Guarantee biosecurity of (genetic) nucleus breeding infrastructure including AI stations healthy on Topigs Norsvin SPF health standards.
  • Based on the performed audits in the clusters, identify action plans per cluster and monitor progress.
  • Manage and coordinate the development of new and maintenance of existing health certificates and protocols, in close contact with GSCM and local veterinarians.
  • Define the quality standards and monitor the audits executed in the clusters for distributors in terms of health and biosecurity.
  • Organize and monitor adequate veterinarian support towards the genetic dissemination process (semen, embryos, and animals).
  • Close collaboration with the Health and Behavior platform to connect research, the GVS team, and the field.
  • Provide veterinarian support and expertise in depop/repos, eradications and other health improvement projects.

 

Profile and skills:

  • Senior porcine veterinarian with at least 10 years of relevant work experience and a wide network in the international porcine sector.
  • Thorough knowledge and interest in porcine veterinary medicine. Experience with genetics and breeding programs is an advantage.
  • Excellent communicator with good intercultural skills. Able to motivate and inspire internal and external stakeholders in the veterinary environment.
  • Skills to manage different interests and the ability to work in an international setting with a quick and realistic understanding of issues.
  • Native or native-like English is a must
  • Important competences are leadership, team player, decisiveness, forward thinking, management skills, independence, and persuasive communication.

 

Details:

  • The Puesto will be based in España
  • Frequent international travelling is expected up to 30%.
