DescriptionSteel manufacturing is a resource, labour, and energy intensive industry, which must keep pace with the rapid development aiming at decarbonizing our world. Additive manufacturing has opened new perspectives in various engineering sectors, providing resource-efficient solutions through geometric freedom and digitalization. The construction sector is currently making efforts to establish regulations and procedures for the sustainable use of additive manufacturing in steel construction applications. To incorporate additively manufactured steels into the construction sector, it must exhibit suitable mechanical and application-related properties which are harmonized with those of the traditional steels already used in the industry. This project aims to extensively characterize additively manufactured carbon steels, with a specific focus on their fatigue and fracture performance.
RequirementsCandidates should hold an PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or related disciplines with excellent academic credentials and a solid commitment to developing an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
ConditionsThis project will be carried out thanks to the funding from the European Commission.
Starting date: open until filled.
